FAQ - Photocopying & Copyright
What is copyright?
About four pages into any ESL workbook you will find a copyright notice. It usually says, “All rights reserved. No part of this book may be reproduced in any manner without permission from the publisher.” That means it is unlawful to photocopy the workbook.
How is a reproducible workbook different?
On the copyright page of a reproducible the publisher grants the purchaser permission to photocopy the workbook.
Are there restrictions?
Yes. The reproducibles I sell have restricted photocopy permission.
1. The photocopies are for ESL or literacy students’ use, they are not for resale.
2. The photocopies are not for use in teacher training programs.
3. Some publishers grant photocopy permission to the one purchasing teacher.
4. Some publishers grant permission for all teachers at the one purchasing school or site.
5. In some cases a small extra fee can be paid to upgrade the permission from teacher to site.
How do I know what the photocopy restrictions are for each book?
Each book will indicate either permission for purchasing teacher or purchasing site.
What if borrow one of your reproducibles from a library?
Did you or your school purchase the book? If the answer is no, then you do not have permission to photocopy the book. |
